I have to admit that after read the new Paul McKenna book I am really fascinated by the correlation between the two.I guess my biggest question if anyone has the answer is if you resolve past or emotional issues do stop overeating and therefore lose weight naturally. This may sound like a silly question but I am somewhat obsessed with psychosomatic situations and issues.More so my own issues with anxiety and passive/aggressive behaviors I learned from my parents.

You can think of your body as your subconscious mind. It engages in storing water and fat as a way to protect your organs from toxic chemicals by diluting them and keeping them physically separated from your vital organs. This is in addition to keeping your muscles rigid as a way to reduce both physical sensations and emotions. The muscles get used to being contracted and they atrophy from not being moved through their full range of motion and then it takes time to get them to fully stretch out again. Fasting, stretching, and strength training for the body will have definite effects on your emotions as the process of releasing baggage is very turbulent. It helps to have a support network for the process, including people who have been through it before who can guide you. Physical ways of training the body such as yoga or tai chi or acupressure can take years off the process.

This might sound a bit metaphysical but...one theory is that the body responds by putting on weight when the person feels unmocked (i.e. invalidated, made less of, reduced by others). Because the person, and by extension their body, feels that others are trying to make less of them, the body's reaction is to "mock up" mass (i.e. weight) as a counter-effort against this.

Hi Pook

The way I see it is that we are physical, emotional, mental, spiritual beings and all are connected.  Therefore any imbalance will affect us.  There can be many different reasons why people are overweight. Emotional and past issues could certainly affect someone's weight and so if those issues were resolved then it makes sense that the weight would resolve itself naturally. For example, they would start to desire more nutritious food and eat healthy portions and only eat when the body needs food and maybe feel like being more active.

EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique could very well be the answer. Many people will not use it because it is too simple and looks silly. I have not used it for weight loss since I am not overweight, but I have used it for other things. One is to stop heart palpitations.   I believe that nearly all physical problems begin in the subconcious mind. If you are not familiar with EFT check it out at http://emofree.com. One lady, Carol Look, has a program using EFT for weight loss.
I bought the EFT video program, but have not practiced much because I seem to come across programs that are more advanced. Such as theta healing. I read the book on Theta Healing, but have not been able to master it. One would probably need to go to a class to become proficient at this type healing. Classes are not cheap and there is none in my part of the country.I have used a remote viewing/remote influencing program for the last nine months. This program has many elements of meditation, healing, law of attraction and much more. Incidently, I did buy the program, The Secret.

It does seem that the subconscious part of our mind holds many secrets and unlimited potentials, but how easily these can be programmed or altered is it seems speculative so far. I bought a program called
'The Super Mind Evolution' which contains quite a few pdf files on a wide range of topics as well as mp3's containing brain entrainment programs and subliminal programs to be listened to as your falling asleep. So far I can't notice any great difference or improvements. I just recently purchased a program called 'Brain Bullets' which downloads to your desktop and has a series and large selection of positive affirmations which one can choose from or make up thier own and these are then flashed subliminally accross your comp. screen at a rapid rate while you go about your business. It's too new for me to report on its effectiveness but hope it's all it's suppose to be. Undecided

Fix My Fat Head

Tuesday 5th May, 10.35pm, BBC One

Hannah Jones is a 35 year-old Cardiff-based journalist who, at 19 stone, is clinically obese. What makes it so hard for her to simply eat less and exercise more? Hannah's convinced the problem's in her head.
Fix my Fat Head delves straight into the heart of Hannah's theory. This is not about what to eat and what not to eat; it is one woman's journey into the bigger psychological and emotional issues behind losing weight. By exploring the factors behind her overeating, Hannah will shed light on why it is so hard for her and others to lose weight and keep it off.

I've been reading Kevin Trudeau's book "Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About" and he writes quite a bit about why it is so hard for people to lose weight. Basically, he asserts the problem isn't with you and the amount you eat or that you have no willpower. The food industry fills the food we buy full of additives which literally addict you to their products, cause weight gain and make you hungry, so that you will buy more of their product.

Reading the labels on packets is a good start if you want to lose weight. If it's full of chemical additives, don't buy it. The best food is organic, preferably locally grown produce. Try googling for farmers' markets in your area. Yes, it does cost more, but what price your health and wellbeing?

Hi Sueblue,  Just reading your comments about food and addictions.  This forum has recently taught me about subliminal messages  and I sent emails to my children today about the subject and one of them (the 24 year old) came back and said yes, mum, subliminal messages are all over your TV to make you buy things".  Now I am looking around my home and thinking - "why did I buy that" - seriously its scarey..... Oh dear! What is going on?  Tonight - everytime an advert came onto the tv I left the room - lol x
